Yesterday Mike and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary. We didn't really do anything extra special...I took half a day off work and Mike and I went out for lunch (couldn't do dinner because we both had to be at church for dinner theater rehearsal) and then we finished putting up our Christmas tree. Let me tell you, That was a whole bunch of "fun". It was suppose to be up and finished several nights ago so I was a little agitated but I told myself it was no big deal and it would be stupid to stress over a tree. First we put the lights on and we realized we didn't like the way they were put on ,so Mike takes them off...and then puts them on again and we realize that we have a lot of lights out on one strand (yes, this is why you check them BEFORE you put them on the tree) so off they come again. Can't find the replacement bulbs so off we go to Target. As we are walking out our front door, Mike turns around cocks his head and asks "Is it just me or is the tree leaning?" sure enought it was. ok Sarah, don't stress. It's just a tree.
Then I thought of a story my mom told me about a Christmas tree her and my dad had one year before I was born....apparently this live tree they got just would not stand up straight regardless of how they cut it or put it in the stand. They would get it up and it would fall over....they'd work some more on it and think that they finally had it and it would fall over again. Finally my dad got fed up and nailed the tree to the floor! I wish I could have been there to see it:)
Well anyway, our tree is finally finished and it looks great. Kudos to Mike who had the patience of Job as he was putting replacement bulbs in. I would have just thrown them out and gotten new ones!

I feel pretty
This past weekend was so wonderful! I don't have many weekends where I just feel pretty....this was one of the few weekends that I did not just lounging around in sweatpants and a t-shirt.
Friday night after I got off of work Mike and I decided to go out. He put on a nice shirt and a blazer, I put on a pretty blue turtleneck, a white "fluffy" sweater and my favorite pair of boots that just make me feel a little prettier and we headed out to P.F. Changs. The wait was over an hour so we put our names down and decided to walk around the mall a little bit...which was really nice for me because Mike hates to go to the mall and refuses to just go to look around. We went in Williams Sonoma (one of my favorite stores) and sampled some apple cider, pumpkin bread and some absolutely delicious pumpkin brittle. Mike had never been in Williams Sonoma and was a little taken back by the pricey-ness but was still nice.
After walking around for a while we went back to discover that we still had an hour wait, unless we wanted to sit on the Verandah. When they first suggested it I laughed! It was freezing outside. They couldn't be serious! Well...turns out they had the Verandah "draped" off and heaters that had been warming it up for quite a while so they assured us it was nice and warm. We decided we didn't want to wait so we headed outside. It was actually really nice....it was warm and wasn't as much noise out there. After a delicious dinner we got up and I realized that although the rest of my body had stayed warm, my legs and backside had sort of gone numb! Dang the non-padded seats!
Saturday morning I tried to do some more Christmas shopping....again, I was unsuccessful. Oh well, I guess I'll get there. Saturday afternoon I went to the ladies Christmas tea at church. It was sooooo nice! I dressed up in my black and white Ann Taylor dress and gave a little extra effort when putting on my makeup and then headed to church to just relax and be waited on! The tea was delicious (we had Pumpkin Spice, Mango and then a chocolate raspberry tea), the food was yummy (scones, little sandwiches and sweets) and the servers were just wonderful. The men at our church are just amazing men...and it was so sweet of them to serve us. The fellowship that us ladies had was wondeful as well and I look forward to it again next year. After being waited on and pampered a little I went home, sat down and then Mike walks in and asks...."hey hon, would you mind heating up my leftovers from yesterday?" and just like that the pampering came to an end:)

more positive, less venting....
If I don't blog about something that makes me happy I might just go crazy! It is absolutely amazing (and extremely sad) how this is upsetting me (read fist blog of the day if you have no idea what I'm talking about:))
So here are some things that have put a smile on my face recently:
*buying gas for only $1.54/gallon yesterday (definitely a plus)...shocked me when I filled my whole car up for only $21!
*having the apartment all to myself last night while Mike was in Atlanta for WWE wrestling. ( I love my husband dearly and love spending time with him but sometimes I like having some alone time)
*Teaching. Last Tuesday I started teaching karate again at the class our church offers. I have been going off and on and helping a little here and there but last week I got to teach three 5 year olds and it was wonderful! I had so much fun and I really feel they learned something. Had one of the parents come up and thank me for working so well with his kids. Made me feel like a million bucks.
*Crums on Central. Last Friday after work Mike got in one of his secretive moods and told me not to fix dinner that we were going out. When I asked where he wouldn't tell me. He took me to a new restaurant here in Augusta called Crums on Central. Absolutely wonderful! Had a wonderful time just enjoying each others company and eating some delicious food. I decided to try fried kalamata olives as my appetizer. I'm sure many of you think this is disgusting but I thought it was wonderful...a little strong...but wonderful:)
Ok, that's enough. I'm in a much better mood:) have a great day!

Spreading the blame....
I'm just a tad upset at the moment, and maybe I shouldn't be but I'm going to vent anyway. Day has been going pretty well. Found out an order a couple weeks ago go screwed up and that someone is going to get in trouble for it.....looked like blame was going to go to another guy at work since it was his day on and was the only supervisor here. I felt bad because it really stinks to get in trouble around here. We were suppose to ship certain rolls on a certain shipment and several of these rolls somehow did not get shipped. Not good. Well come to find out, the blame is being spread (by my manager) and hopefully in a way that doesn't directly say "Sarah is the one who messed up". I kind of shrugged my shoulders and just said "oh well...not much I can do about it now" but the more I think about it the more upset I am getting that blame is also being put on me. I missed the same thing the supervisor did and ultimately it is his responsibility...not mine (am I a supervisor? no, don't think so)...and yet I'm going to get in trouble too. Oh well. Guess I should just sigh and try to forget about it. I should have stepped it up...maybe it was my fault.

Is it really that time again?
So I went out Saturday to do a little early Christmas shopping and was shocked when I saw Santa in the mall just sitting in his chair waiting for the kids to come and get their picture taken with him. So either no one is aware that Santa has left the North Pole early to come take pictures or the economy is so bad overall that pictures with Santa just aren't in the budget for many families this year.
After doing some unsuccesful shopping I realized that this year I don't feel what we American's call the Christmas Spirit. I don't really want to put up decorations or send Christmas cards (even though I've already started addressing them....I have to start early or they don't get done at all) , or do any baking or anything. It almost makes me sick to my stomach when I think of all the gifts that will be given. Don't get me wrong, gifts are great...but honestly, how much "stuff" do we really need? I don't have room for half then things I already have so why do I need more?
Earlier today I was on the Samaritan's Purse website. If you want to be in the real Christmas spirit go here (www.samaritanspurse.org). If you haven't had a chance, go look at their gift catalog. You won't find any cool high-tech toys or towers of cookies. You'll find items to buy for others....such as warm clothes, blankets, food, emergency shelters, immunizations, teaching supplies so that children can learn to read and write, comfort packs for those with HIV,etc. When I see gifts like these and see how inexpensive it really is to help someone in need I feel extremely blessed and very spoiled. I have been given so much and I have complained so much about how unfair things are. Yes, life is unfair. It is unfair that I get to sleep in a nice warm bed every night while more people than I can count don't have a roof over their head. It is unfair that I get to eat every day while tons of small children can't remember the last meal they ate. It is unfair that I have the luxury of running water while in some countries you'd have to walk 6 miles just to get some dirty water that hopefully will supply your family for the day. It is unfair that I have a loving and supporting family while countless children all over the world have been orphaned due to war and natural disasters. I could go on and on, but I won't. You get the point....more importantly, I get the point.
In church we have been going over tithing and this past Sunday God really spoke to me. I finally realized that He is only intersted in what I do with what I have now....not what I will do if I get more money. If I'm not trustworthy with the small things I will never be trustworthy with the big things. I know this may seem extremely simple to you but for me it has been a wonderful eye-opener. In the past when I looked online at the Samaritan Purse website I have always planned on giving...when I have more money and can do more. Today, even though I would have liked to have given more, I donated an inexpensive $6 blanket. Not a huge gift by any stretch of the imagination but the point is I gave...I didn't wait. I can't tell you how good I feel about doing that. It does my soul good to know that somone who normally sleeps in the cold will now have a warm blanket to comfort them:)
